Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do children get placed in foster care?

A: The foster care system is designed for children 0-18 years of age who, for various reasons, have been determined to need placement in an alternative environment than their family home.

Q: How much does it cost to make a blanket?

A: Each blanket takes 4 yards of fleece fabric and costs $15-20 to make.

Q: When do they receive a Fleece for Keeps?

A: Fleece for Keeps provides a continuous supply of blankets to the state foster care offices. As a child is taken into foster care, they receive their fleece for keeps. That blanket then goes with them wherever their circumstances take them

Q: What can I do to help?

A: Our greatest need is for monetary donations to buy fleece fabric. Large or small, every dollar donated is used to bring warmth to these deserving children.

Other ways you can help include:
  • Volunteer as an individual or group to make blankets.
  • Purchase and donate fleece
  • Scout or student community service project/hours

Q: Why blankets?

A: Every child, young or old loves the warmth and comfort a blanket gives them. A blanket that is theirs to keep, may give a foster child that sense of warmth, love and stability that is so often missing in their lives.
